About WasItOnSale.ca
A Canadian deals site that judges every sale by one question: is this price actually lower than what the item has sold for before?
How we collect prices
- Official data and partner feeds first. Retailer partner APIs (for example Amazon's Product Advertising API, Impact product catalogs) and open government data.
- Public pages only where robots.txt allows it, at most once a day, and never where a retailer's terms forbid automated collection (Costco.ca, Amazon.ca, BestBuy.ca).
- Human entry for in-store sales such as Costco coupon books, checked against the photo.
How “Is this sale real?” works
We save every price we see. A deal is labelled lowest price we've recorded only if it beats every earlier observation. Items we've only just started tracking say so.
Automation and editing
Software collects prices and drafts summaries from that data. A human editor reviews and approves every post before it's published, and every price links to its source.
